The History of the Kings of Britain was originally published under the Latin title, Historia Regum Britanniae, by Anglo-Saxon monk, Geoffrey of Monmouth. The chronicle is famous as the original source of the legend of Sir Arthur and the Knights /5(11).

This book is about Arthur, the King of Britain. It tells of his life all the way from when he was living with his adoptive brother and father all the way to when he ruled in Camelot. During Arthur's reign, he had many allies and enemies such as Merlin, his dog Bercelet, Gawain, Lancelot, his wife Guinevere, and his evil son Mordred/5.

He was the subject of many medieval histories and romances, and purportedly headed the defence of Britain against the Saxons in the sixth century.

After some deliberation, it was agreed that ambassadors should be despatched into Armorica, to king Hoel, to represent to him the calamitous state of Britain. Hoel was the son of Arthur's sister by Dubricius, king of the Armorican Britons; so that, upon advice of the disturbances his uncle was threatened with, he ordered his fleet to be got.

The text first appeared in the s and was immediately popular, inspiring retellings and adaptations by writers and artists through the centuries.

King Arthur is the protagonist of The Once and Future King and the novel’s narrative and emotional center. The novel follows Arthur’s life from beginning to end, and the major events in his life shape the story.

After Arthur becomes king, his ideas about government reshape English society, and these changes determine the plot, chronology, and setting of the four books that make up the novel. These are my favourite books, simply the best books on Arthur, King of Britain Personal Favourites The search for Arthur seized my dreams when The Boy's King Arthur Sir Thomas Malory's History of King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Reviews:   In the popular 12th-century book “History of the Kings of Britain,” Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote the first life story of Arthur, describing his magic sword Caliburn (later known as Excalibur.

And even the renowned king Arthur himself was mortally wounded; and being carried thence to the isle of Avallon to be cured of his wounds, he gave up the crown of Britain to his kinsman Constantine, the son of Cador, duke of Cornwall, in the five hundred and forty-second year of.

He therefore took on the task of creating the first full biographies of King Arthur and Merlin, which from that point on remained the quintessential source for all Arthurian legend tales. His finest work, "The History of the Kings of Britain", traces the reign of nearly a hundred British kings, beginning with the nation's mythical founder, s: 8.
